Reiki is a Japanese energy-based healing practice traditionally practiced through the hands. The word Reiki is commonly explained through two Japanese characters: “Rei,” referring to universal or spiritual essence, and “Ki,” referring to life-force energy. In Reiki practice, the practitioner uses a hands-on or hands-near approach with the intention of supporting relaxation, balance and wellbeing.
At Braham Yoga, Reiki is taught as a practical discipline that combines learning, personal practice and spiritual awareness. The retreat focuses on understanding Reiki through guided instruction, hands-on practice and personal experience in the peaceful surroundings of Rishikesh.
Reiki is described in spiritual traditions as an ancient healing practice with roots going back thousands of years. Some traditional teachings connect its history with Lemuria, Atlantis and ancient Egypt, where Reiki is believed to have been practiced as a form of healing energy. Over time, this knowledge was said to have been lost and rediscovered through different periods.
In modern times, Reiki was rediscovered and developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the late 19th and early 20th century. From Japan, Reiki gradually spread around the world and is now practiced by people from many different backgrounds. At Braham Yoga, we continue this tradition through guided Reiki training, regular practice and personal experience.
